By Post

I wrote a letter today to travel by snail mail.

I love sending (and receiving) actual hold-in-your-hand notes because they are not so easily forgotten in a long list of inbox messages (most of which are spam or letters from the college- they average about 6 a day), and seem to be a part of the past that has not completely been done away with yet.

Way back in the Victorian era (1837-1901), there were all sorts of rules of etiquette for letter-writers (ie. everybody). Underlining wasn't aloud, neither were abbreviations, and you had to use a new paragraph for each subject, or else! In other words, most of our feeble attempts at letter writing would earn us fails for sure. (Sign up for the texting competition instead...)

Check out my lovely Santorini/ Calendar/ envelope. Honourable mention, please?

Ah. A break from all things school

Last night we met some long-lost relations at the Old Spaghetti Factory for some scrumptious pasta. Perfect combination, I'd say.
Then, driving home along Dallas Road we see a shirtless man boxing with the air in front of him. This struck me as quite unusual, so I mentioned it to someone at school today who assured me that he is often there, and also swims across Vancouver Island's lakes on a regular basis. Two thoughts came to mind: 1-It's a very small city we live in, and 2-I pick him for my team.

Sold!

New shoes and good deed for the day, all in one!

These shoes are so comfortable (they are as light as air), they don't fall off when I walk, they breathe, and they pretty much go with anything. To top it off, the fabric on the inside is pretty sweet, as you can tell. This company has been around for a while, and gives away one pair of TOMS to a child who needs them with every pair we buy. According to their website, in some places, if kids don't have shoes, they cannot attend school because shoes are required as part of the uniform. Food for thought.

Of course this 1 for 1 deal makes me think that I probably need every single colour, but I'll try to restrain myself. But the ones I bought were black... so I think that means that I still deserve a coloured pair.

Sounds.

Did you know that trees make a creaking sound when it's windy? I didn't, but I sure do now. It's creepy.

PS. I seem to have a pattern happening with my post titles (unconsciously, I assure you. Until now anyways). 'S' is a predominant letter in many of them in February and now March. I wonder how long I can keep that up...

Spring has sprung.

At least it had sprung yesterday! Hence we sprung upon Fleming beach, McAuley's Point, and even made it over to Saxe Point. It was just a feel good sort of day. Sun, beach, new shoes, book store, and chocolate pancakes. Next story coming up on new shoes, I know Monica, I promised.
I love how bright the red turned out in this one. I don't think it looked that bright even in real life!

It's difficult to imagine our peaceful little city as requiring any sort of army shelters, but it did at one time, not so long ago either! And here is proof! I hope they are never destroyed.

Be-yoo-tiful.

My friend and I.

Right after he made a rather impressive bound over the back seat from the trunk.
